Enugu's $30 Billion Economic Vision: Building the Future Through Technology, Innovation, MSMEs and Startups

TVC News Nigeria | 23rd February 2026

Enugu State is taking strategic steps to transform its economy from $4.4 billion to a $30 billion powerhouse, anchored on digital transformation, technology innovation, and strong support for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

This was the central message from Hon. Arinze Chilo-Offiah, Director-General of the Enugu MSME and StartUp Agency and Special Adviser to the Governor on the Digital Economy, in a recent interview with TVC News.

According to Hon. Arinze Chilo-Offiah, the state is building a sustainable ecosystem that empowers entrepreneurs, supports technology-driven businesses, creates jobs, and positions Enugu as a leading innovation hub in Nigeria.

Building the Future Through Digital Transformation

A key pillar of the state's economic growth strategy is the development of a structured digital economy ecosystem designed to discover, support, and accelerate high-potential technology founders and innovative businesses.

Through venture discovery and acceleration programmes, promising entrepreneurs are receiving the mentorship, resources, and support required to grow their ideas into scalable businesses.

Empowering Enugu's Young Talent

With over 60% of the state's population under the age of 40, and a strong network of tertiary institutions, Enugu is leaning on its youthful population as a major driver of innovation and economic growth. The state's strategy focuses on creating opportunities for young people in technology, entrepreneurship, outsourcing, and knowledge-based industries

Developing World-Class Innovation Infrastructure

To support this vision, Enugu State is investing in critical technology infrastructure, including:

A Tech and Innovation Hub, designed to support startups, innovators, and technology entrepreneurs.

An Artificial Intelligence Institute, aimed at developing future-ready digital skills and solutions.

Enugu Talent City, a large-scale knowledge and outsourcing ecosystem designed to create employment opportunities in the digital economy.

The Talent City initiative includes a 2,000-seat knowledge-based facility and a 750-seat Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) center, positioning Enugu as a major destination for global outsourcing opportunities.

Supporting MSMEs Through Partnerships

The state is adopting a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) approach to ensure the long-term sustainability of its economic development initiatives. By collaborating with private sector players, technology companies, and local innovators, Enugu is building an ecosystem where businesses can access support, partnerships, and growth opportunities beyond government programes.

Inspiring Innovation Through Hackathons

As part of its commitment to innovation, Enugu State recently hosted a hackathon that attracted over 250 applications from six major local institutions. Following a competitive selection process:

- 35 teams participated in an intensive innovation boot camp.

- The top 10 teams showcased their solutions to a wider audience.

The programme highlighted the creativity and problem-solving ability of young innovators, including emerging hardware solutions such as biodegradable sanitary pads made from banana fibre.

Creating the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs

The Enugu MSME & StartUp Agency ecosystem is designed to help entrepreneurs move from ideas to impact by providing access to:

- Business support programmes

- Digital skills development

- Innovation opportunities

- Entrepreneurship training

- Market access

- Strategic partnerships

Through these initiatives, Enugu State is building a future where technology, entrepreneurship, and innovation become key drivers of economic growth.

The Enugu MSME & StartUp Agency, under the leadership of DG Hon. Arinze Chilo-Offiah, remains committed to supporting businesses, empowering entrepreneurs, and creating opportunities that contribute to a stronger and more prosperous Enugu economy.

“Every entrepreneur in Enugu — from the grassroots nano-business to the high-growth startup — deserves the tools, finance, and skills to grow.”
