Enugu Campus Hackathon Creates a Clear Path from Idea to Product to Startup for Student Entrepreneurs
The Nation | 8th December 2025
Enugu State has launched the Enugu Campus Hackathon 2025, a flagship innovation programme designed to transform promising ideas into viable products and successful businesses while nurturing the next generation of technology entrepreneurs.
Implemented by the Enugu MSME & StartUp Agency in collaboration with the Office of Digital Economy, the initiative provides a structured innovation pipeline that guides young innovators from idea generation to product development, incubation, and market access.
Speaking on the initiative, Hon. Arinze Chilo-Offiah, Director-General of the Enugu MSME & StartUp Agency and Special Adviser to the Governor on the Digital Economy, explained that the programme forms part of the state’s broader strategy to build a thriving digital economy driven by innovation, entrepreneurship, and human capital development.
A Structured Innovation Ecosystem
According to Hon. Arinze Chilo-Offiah, the Enugu Campus Hackathon is more than a competition, it is a comprehensive innovation ecosystem that supports young innovators through every stage of their entrepreneurial journey.
The initiative is backed by investments in digital infrastructure, broadband expansion, talent development, and innovation support facilities, including the Enugu Tech and Innovation Hub.
Outstanding teams emerging from the programme will progress into the Enugu Startup Accelerator, where they will receive product development support, expert coaching, mentorship, and access to investment opportunities to help transform their ideas into scalable businesses.
Empowering Young Innovators Across Enugu
The programme is engaging students and young innovators from six tertiary institutions across the state, alongside a dedicated non-campus innovation track.
Participating institutions include:
University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN),
University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC),
Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT),
Institute of Management and Technology (IMT),
Godfrey Okoye University (GOU),
Coal City University.
Participants have access to grants, mentorship, entrepreneurship training, incubation opportunities, and pathways to market through strategic partnerships.
Strategic Partnerships Driving Innovation
The Enugu Campus Hackathon is supported by leading innovation ecosystem partners, including Genesys Tech Hub, The Garage, and Capitis Global Ventures.
These partnerships provide participants with access to experienced mentors, industry experts, business development support, and innovation resources that strengthen their ability to build sustainable, market-ready ventures.
Innovation at the Heart of Enugu’s Development Agenda
Hon. Arinze Chilo-Offiah noted that his Excellency Gov. Peter Mbah has positioned innovation, digital entrepreneurship, and technology as key pillars of Enugu State’s economic transformation agenda.
He described the Campus Hackathon as one of the state’s flagship initiatives for developing young innovators, equipping them with practical skills, and creating globally competitive businesses capable of driving economic growth.
From Boot Camp to Business Growth
Following the selection process, participants advance to an intensive innovation boot camp where they receive mentorship, technical guidance, and business development support.
At the Grand Finale, the top three teams from each participating institution compete for prizes, incubation opportunities, and long-term entrepreneurial support.
The programme also includes an “Others” Track, created for talented young innovators who are not affiliated with any participating institution. While these participants do not compete in the final stage, they benefit from the boot camp experience, mentorship, networking opportunities, and exposure to the state’s innovation ecosystem.
Building Enugu’s Future Through Innovation
The Enugu Campus Hackathon reflects the state’s commitment to creating an enabling environment where young innovators can transform creative ideas into impactful businesses.
By connecting students with mentorship, funding opportunities, incubation programmes, and strategic partnerships, the Enugu MSME & StartUp Agency is strengthening the state’s innovation ecosystem and laying the foundation for a knowledge-based economy driven by technology, entrepreneurship, and enterprise.
“Every entrepreneur in Enugu — from the grassroots nano-business to the high-growth startup — deserves the tools, finance, and skills to grow.”
