Nigerian Startup Act Domestication & Enugu Startup Bill

The Nigerian Startup Act Domestication Exercise in Enugu State, held in November 2024, was a high-level engagement bringing together government officials, investors, startup founders, and key ecosystem players to adapt the Nigeriar Startup Act to Enugu's unique economic landscape.

Organized by the Enugu SME & Startup Center in collaboration with ONDI and NITA, the two-day event featured policy discussions, technical workshops, and stakeholder consultations aimed at refining the Enugu Startup Bill.

Key discussions focused on expanding the definition of startups, introducing Digital Economy Enhancement Zones, establishing state-backed funding mechanisms, and simplifying regulatory processes to create an enabling environment for innovation and investment.

The event also proposed the Enugu Digital Economy Identity (EDEl) System for startup verification and access to incentives. By the end of the workshop, stakeholders agreed on a strategic roadmap for legislative approval, funding mobilization, and infrastructure expansion, positioning Enugu as a national leader in the digital economy and startup ecosystem.

The next steps involve finalizing the Enugu Startup Bill, setting up a Startup Secretariat, and ensuring rapid implementation of policy recommendations.n
