Overview
About this programme
Trained 14,000+ civil servants in digital productivity tools, Microsoft applications, cybersecurity awareness, and data management.
The Civil Servants Digital Literacy Training is a mandatory initiative launched by the Enugu State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Nubuisi Mbah, to equip the state's public workforce with essential 21st-century digital skills. The program focuses on practical competencies in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), digital communication, data management, and ICT applications, with the overarching goal of enhancing productivity, transparency, and efficient service delivery across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Since its inception, the program has been rolled out in three structured batches, each designed to accommodate various MDAs in phases to allow for seamless delivery and impact measurement. As of March 2025, the program has successfully trained over 14,000 civil servants, including administrative officers, secretaries, data clerks, and technical personnel across the 17 Local Government Areas of Enugu State.
Each batch delivers intensive, hands-on training over a two to three-week period, conducted in government-approved ICT facilities with full-day sessions led by experienced facilitators and technical support staff. The training also includes pre- and post-assessments to ensure learning outcomes are met.
This initiative aligns directly with His Excellency's administration's commitment to building a future-ready civil service and forms a key pillar of the state's broader digital transformation strategy. The program is also tied to the new civil service promotion policy, which requires successful completion of the digital literacy program as a criterion for annual advancement within the public service. The training is implemented through the Engu SME Center and the Office of the Special Adviser on MSMEs and Digital Economy, in strategic partnership with organizations such as FCDO, Tech4Dev, Microsoft, and other key stakeholders who provide technical support, content delivery, and program sustainability frameworks.
